Wednesday Evenings: Acting Fundamentals, Kathrin Lawlor: Instructor
This class offers a fundamental approach to acting, in a safe and fun environment. We will use theater games, improvisation, trust/concentration exercises to explore a variety of acting concepts and techniques. We will introduce scripted material, as time allows. Students are welcome to participate in a performance showcase at the end of the session, although it is not required. All skill levels are welcome to attend this exciting introductory class.

18 and older. Pre-registration required, this class can not accommodate drop-ins.
$100.00 for an 8-week session.
Refund Policy for Workshops: For cancellations made more than three weeks before the beginning of the particular program, the school will refund all fees less a $25.00 handling fee. Within three weeks, no refund will be made unless that spot can be filled.

Faculty
Gina Capossela , MA, MSW, has been dancing since childhood. She has studied gymnastics, tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop, West African, Flamenco, Indian, and Central Asian Dance. She has been studying and performing Middle Eastern dance for the last fifteen years. She earned a bachelor's degree in Art History and Italian from Middlebury College, a Master's degree in Social Work from University of Vermont, and a Master's degree in Dance from American University in Washington, D.C. While in Washington, Gina had the great fortune to study and perform with the award-winning Silk Road Dance Company, specializing in Middle Eastern and Central Asian dance. As a company member, she performed for such dignitaries as the Ambassador of Egypt at the Egyptian Embassy, the Uzbek Embassy, the United Nations High Commission on Human Rights, National Geographic and the Kennedy Center, among others. Gina lives in Vermont, teaching and performing Middle Eastern and American Belly Dance on a full time basis. She teaches at local studios in White River Junction, Woodstock, Hanover, and Thetford. She also teaches academic courses on Middle Eastern and American Belly Dance history.
Catherine Freese first fell in love with tai chi while taking an undergraduate class in Chinese philosophy. Fifteen years ago she began studying it in earnest, learning a Yang form, a Chen form and eventually studying the sword and staff. One of the things she loves most is how this ancient art remains relevant today in cultivating energy and balancing relaxation and strength.
Faye Grearson during the early 1990s, alternated winters teaching dance at Colorado Mountain College in Aspen with summers competing on the West Coast. At that time she and her partner focused on the UCWDC Country Western circuit, successfully competing at the national level in both choreographed and lead and follow events in East and West Coast Swing, Waltz, Cha cha, Texas Two-Step and Polka.
When she returned to the Upper Valley region of New Hampshire and Vermont in 1995, Faye continued to expand her dance repertoire. A certified instructor of West Coast Swing through the Professional Dance Instructors of America, she also teaches group, private, and wedding preparation lessons and works with school groups in a variety of dances including swing, hustle, cha cha, salsa, and Texas Two-Step. With her extensive background in education, ski, and dance instruction, Faye is able to communicate ideas and movements in a variety of ways. Her classes are known for being fun while emphasizing proper technique and practical tips for leaders and followers. Kathrin Lawlor has been acting for over twenty years. In 1995 Kathrin won the VT State Forensic championship, category prose. Kathrin attended Beloit College in Beloit Wisconsin where she graduated with a BA in theater. Kathrin has acted in a wide variety of shows-including: Lubov Andreyevna Ranevsky in Anton Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard, Annie Sullivan in William Gibson's The Miracle Worker and Queen Gertrude in Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, to name just a few. In addition to her years in theater Kathrin has also worked at River City Arts, Northern Stage and The Lost Nation Theater. Kathrin has received many positive reviews of her work and has won the following honors: Beloit College Memorial Theater Award, The Rod Umlas Theater Award, Outstanding Pentangle Junior Player. Kathrin loves to share her skills with anyone interested in the world of theater- whatever the skill level.
Scott Paulson earned his B.A. in Music from Johnson State College, Vermont. Scott has taught instrumental music programs, jazz bands, steel bands and percussion groups in area private and public schools since 1996. He has done Steel Drum workshops for such entities as The Vermont Alliance for Arts Education and for The Killington Music Festival Suzuki School. He currently plays lead pan with several professional groups and with the widely acclaimed "Panhandlers," and has also played bass guitar with folk artist/ instrumentalist "Spencer Lewis and the Thrufters," Latin and New Orleans music with GUSANO, and Highland Bagpipes with The Catamount Pipe Band.
Kevin Quigley is an artist of many mediums who likes to dig into the spaces between definitions and pry them open a bit wider. He is interested in combining chance with improvisation and in using art to ask questions not make statements. He holds a BFA in Classical Vocal Performance from Carnegie Mellon University and has been working as a performer, composer, producer/director, and teacher in Pittsburgh, Manhattan, and now Vermont for the past 20 years.
Barbara Smith attended Bard College as a Liberace Scholar, where she received her Bachelor of Arts with a focus in Music Performance. While at Bard, she worked with Joan Tower, Luis Garcia-Renart, flutist Patricia Spencer, saxophonists Erika Lindsay and Howard Johnson, composer Kyle Gann, and performed as a solo flutist with the American Symphony Orchestra. Barbara performs in the area with The East Bay Jazz Ensemble, various Steel Pan groups, and at a variety of functions as a solo flutist.
Beth Telford has been playing fiddle for more than 20 years at festivals, dances, coffeehouses, and backyards in New England and beyond. Since 1996, she has concentrated on learning the tunes and stylings of Cape Breton music. For the past 3 years, she has organized and taught week-long Cape Breton fiddle camps with her mentor, master Cape Breton fiddler Jerry Holland. Beth teaches aspiring fiddlers of any age or ability. She believes that it is important to be
able to learn music both by ear and from music, and incorporates both methods into her teaching.
